The Cities of Rock-NY tee shirt design features a giant Red skinned punk rocker chick leaning up against a building which appears to be located on an empty New York street.
As for the artwork, it serves as a testament to the punk rock scene which thrived in New York during the 70’s and early 80’s. First, one of the first things that stands out is the "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" sign. Which is a reference to the Ramones song of the same title. With that said, The Ramones of course were one of the most influential punk rock bands of all time. A band who got their start in New York and dominated the city's fertile music scene. Lastly, the size and stature of the punk rocker chick serves as a physical personification of the larger than life punk rock mentality. Which helped to drive the scene out of obscurity and into the mainstream.
This shirt tastefully acknowledges the continuing relevance of the punk scene as well as subtly paying homage to those who paved its way.
The art work itself is quite tasteful and well-illustrated. For one, It is clear that the shirts designer took their time and payed close attention to detail. Two, the color contrast between the Black and White buildings and the Red skinned punk rocker chick allows the focal point of the design (the girl) to really pop. Overall, amplifying the presence of the punk rocker in the design.
As for the print, the Reds that are featured in the design appear to be quite muted and dull. The lack of vibrancy in the shirt's Reds slightly detracts from the tees aesthetic appeal.
